Malaysian Student Visa Process, Guidelines, Advantages, and Future Prospects

1. Malaysian Student Visa Process

If you want to study in Malaysia, you must apply for a Student Pass (Visa). The process typically involves the following steps:

Step 1: Choose a Recognized Institution

  • Select an educational institution in Malaysia that is approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and the Immigration Department.
  • Apply to the institution and receive an acceptance letter.

Step 2: Student Visa Application

  • The institution will submit your visa application to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) on your behalf.
  • Required documents:
    • Offer letter from the university/college
    • Passport (valid for at least 12 months)
    • Passport-sized photos (white background)
    • Academic transcripts and certificates
    • Health examination report (done in a certified clinic)
    • Proof of financial support (bank statements, scholarship letters, etc.)
    • No-objection certificate (for some countries)
    • Personal bond (paid by the institution)

Step 3: Visa Approval Letter (VAL)

  • If approved, you will receive a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) within 2-6 weeks.

Step 4: Entry into Malaysia

  • Once you have the VAL, apply for a Single Entry Visa (SEV) at the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in your home country (if required).
  • Travel to Malaysia and inform your institution of your arrival.

Step 5: Medical Check-up & Student Pass Issuance

  • Undergo a post-arrival medical screening within 7 days of entering Malaysia.
  • Submit the medical report to the university, which will then apply for your Student Pass (i-Kad).
  • Once approved, you will receive your Student Pass, which is usually valid for 1 year (renewable).

2. Guidelines for Malaysian Student Visa

  • You cannot work for more than 20 hours per week (only during semester breaks or holidays).
  • You must attend at least 80% of classes to maintain visa validity.
  • Any change in course or institution requires a new Student Pass application.
  • Your passport must remain valid for the entire study duration.
  • You must have valid health insurance throughout your stay.
